About the Asian Voices project

Asian Voices is a two year project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which aims to collect the memories of the first immigrant communities in Huddersfield.

In particular, we shall be looking at the first South Asian communities coming into Huddersfield during the 1950s and 1960s from which we aim to find out how they settled in the area, what brought them, where they lived, and what specific problems they faced. We shall also look at how they set up their communities, found employment, as well as how they filled their leisure time.

These memories will be collected in audio form, from first, second and third generation South Asians and can be listened to on the Asian Voices website (see Related Link below) and all audio archives will be stored at the University of Huddersfield.

If you would like to take part in the project or are interested in further information, please contact Project Manager, Nafhesa Ali on Tel: 01484 478411 or Email:
