Asghar Ali's Story

Born in Lahore Pakistan in 1956, Asghar came to Huddersfield with his mother and two siblings in 1964. His dad Ashraf came to England in 1960 and called for them from their home in Pakistan when Asghar was eight years old. His first home was on Leeds Road and he has lived and worked in Huddersfield ever since.

Asghar remembers not recognising his dad when he first got to Heathrow as Ashraf had left for England when Asghar was just four years old. He also looks back at growing up in Huddersfield, going to school and jumping on the trolly buses on the way back. He went to Greenhead Sixth Form College before going back to Pakistan ten years later and getting married to Balqees at the age of eighteen.

Asghar first worked as a conductor on the buses and now is the Service Quality Officer for First Transforming Travel. He has four children all 'born and bred' in Huddersfield and lives in Birkby with his wife and youngest daughter.
